Background: Here you go!
Personality:When Yoko is first introduced, she is shown leaping into Giha village to protect complete and total strangers from a stray Gunmen. She is, of course, partly motivated to do so because of her desire to destroy all Gunmen and protect others like her, but her main motivation is simple: it's her village's fault the Gunmen fell into Giha, and that makes it
her responsibility to clean up her village's mistake. Yoko may be sixteen, but she is clearly an incredibly responsible individual; this can be attributed to the years she's spent fighting to protect both herself and her fellow villagers. Growing up on the battlefield has taught her that any mistakes or careless actions can cost people their lives, and that's something she wants to avoid at all costs. This means that she can be a bit hard on herself at times. It
also means that she strongly dislikes those who act reckless, or people she believes aren't pulling their own weight. She's not afraid to put them in their place, either; while she is generally polite and easy to get along with, if someone acts irresponsibly she'll definitely snap at them. It's a protective gesture, really! She wants to save them from hurting themselves or others, and she also wants them to
think about what they're doing. To Yoko, there's simply no excuse for acting like a fool.
That's not to say that she isn't a bit reckless, herself; really, jumping down into unfamiliar territory without any back-up isn't exactly the most solid plan. However, Yoko has complete and total faith in her own abilities, and why shouldn't she? She's the best marksman in her village, and that means she's been entrusted with her village's strongest weapon: her beloved sniper rifle. There's no doubt that she is proud to be the best shot her village has to offer. She's confident that she can get the job done, and that confidence can be heard in just about everything she says. Still, while she enjoys being praised for her skills, she doesn't overestimate her abilities; as a sniper, she knows the best way to tackle any situation is to observe her enemy from afar, find its weak points, and exploit them
mercilessly. She's also not above taking advice from those she respects. Yoko is far from stupid, but she also recognizes that others--like Leeron, for example--know far more than she does; instead of being insulted when they try to teach her something new, or help her strategize, she generally welcomes their input.
All of that information certainly makes Yoko sound like she's sixteen-going-on-forty, but let's be honest: although she generally acts very mature, she's still a teenager. She has a very short temper, for one thing; while she hardly ever lets it affect her on the battlefield, she definitely has no patience for teasing (i.e. Kamina calling her "fat ass" or "pit chick"). She's more than happy to dish it out, but when she's on the receiving end she's likely to a) walk away in a huff or b) shoot someone with a rubber bullet or two. It all depends on how close she is to the person teasing her! She also likes to be the center of attention, even though she'll strongly deny it. It's true that she doesn't wear her rather skimpy outfit for attention; she just hates to be restricted when she's running around shooting Gunmen, okay. However, she knows that she's a very pretty girl, and she certainly appreciates being appreciated. When someone comes around and "steals" that appreciation by being cuter/sweeter/anything "better" than she is, she gets very, very prickly; she'll usually sit on the sidelines and glare at them, or loudly declare that everyone around her is stupid and immature. The irony is
completely lost on her.
Despite her desire to be appreciated, Yoko is actually very inexperienced when it comes to love. Almost all of her aforementioned confidence disappears when it comes to matters of the heart, because, well... it's not like she's had much time to actually
think about love. She's been battling Gunmen for most of her life, and all the men around her are either valued comrades or young children. The only true romantic experience she's had has been the time she spent with Kamina. Despite the fact that he was loud-mouthed and rough around the edges, there was something about his ridiculous confidence--and his rare thoughtful moments--that drew her in; it took her a while to actually admit that she cared for him, and it took even longer to admit it to
him. She also wasn't the best at actually showing him how she felt. She constantly argued with him, teased him, and shot him with rubber bullets any time he made rude or perverted remarks. Eventually, though, she finally worked up the courage to kiss him for the first time... and he was killed later that day. She's still not over him, to be completely honest; she's finally accepted that he's gone, and her heart has begun to heal, but she's not willing to embark on any future romantic endeavors.
Aside from making Yoko wary of romance in general, Kamina's death also
completely crushed her. Yoko went from being a loud, confident young woman to a much quieter one; furthermore, she began to push herself much too hard, hoping to keep herself occupied so that she wouldn't cry/show weakness in front of her comrades. They expressed their worry to her, of course, but she waved them off, telling them that she was just doing what needed to be done. She also became much more protective of others, especially Simon. However, it was Simon who actually broke her out of her slump; when he finally proved that he was worthy of taking Kamina's place and leading them all to victory, Yoko became much more like her old self. She's still protective of those around her, especially those younger and/or weaker; however, she's not pushing herself quite as hard as she had been. With the humans now able to live safely on the surface, she's slowly going back to her old self.
Slowly. She's still just a bit quieter than she once was.
Abilities: → Yoko is an excellent sniper. She's been using her trusty sniper rifle for years, and she's very,
very good with it. Once she gets something in her sights, she's practically guaranteed to hit it! She's also proficient with other weapons, including a small handgun she typically keeps concealed somewhere on her person.
Her sniper rifle is a very unique weapon, even for her world. Because it is powered by electricity, it's very effective at taking down robots/machinery; its can also use a vast array of strange ammunition, including arrows and rubber bullets. It does, however, need to be charged regularly.
→ Yoko is fairly intelligent! If she sits back and observes something for a long enough time, she can typically spot and exploit any weak points. Once she knows a weak point, she's also never going to forget it; she has, after all, been fighting Gunmen for years on end, and she stores the locations of their power conduits/other weaknesses in her mind. You never know when you're going to run into an enemy similar to one you've fought before!
→ Yoko is physically fit. She can run, duck, and dodge alongside the best of 'em! She doesn't have any sort of superhuman strength or durability; however, she's the type to grit her teeth and deal with any sort of pain she experiences. She never complains about anything! ...Unless she's injured by one of her friends being stupid, of course. Then they'll never hear the end of it.
